Description
The Bowdoin College Museum of Art is seeking applicants to lead the migration from our current collections management system (EmbARK) to TMS Collections (TMSC). The CMS specialist will also oversee the updating of our metadata to reflect current best practices in art collections cataloging. The successful applicant will have the knowledge and experience to review our current data, make recommendations, and prepare and execute the implementation of these updates. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with all staff to facilitate the adoption of TMSC into their work routines, including instances where staff have had no previous or only peripheral access to the collections management software. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate past successes as a facilitator and trainer for new software adoption. This is an 18-month full time position that reports to the Museum Co-Directors.
Requirements
-At least 3 years of experience with art museum registration methods and terminologies, collections management databases, and digital asset management
-Demonstrated broad knowledge of digital technologies, metadata standards, and best practices in the cataloguing of art museum collections
-B. A. required in art history, museum studies or related discipline, an M.A. preferred.
-Familiarity with library and archives cataloguing systems a plus.
-Understanding of ethical and legal standards for the management of museum collections data.
-Advanced experience with collections management software required; experience with The Museum System (TMS) or TMS Collections preferred.
-Demonstrated ability to work as a team leader and as part of a team while coordinating with peers; ability to set and accomplish goals and to meet deadlines by effectively prioritizing; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; and to work autonomously and make critical independent decisions
-Demonstrable skills in diplomacy, negotiation and communication with staff and external parties. Ability to provide meaningful guidance and to listen.
-Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet timelines in a deadline-driven environment.
This is a full-time, year-round position. Standard work hours are 8:30 – 5:00.
