Duties
The duties and responsibilities include:
- Responsibility for overall oversight and coordination of NMAAHC’s collections, including the receiving of collections, safe handling, moving, shelving, and packing of collections; acquisitions, preservation, storage, inventory control, physical security, disaster preparedness, spacing planning and environmental concerns. Works collaboratively in the formulation of program goals and objectives and the development of short- and long-term plans to accomplish goals including collection plans and collections management policy formulation and compliance assurance; stewardship of collections holdings;
- Developing, writing, and implementing formal plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines for NMAAHC’s collection efforts;
- Working proactively and collaboratively with Digitization and Cataloging, acquisitions, archives, media, Office of Project Management and Planning (OPMP) and Exhibitions, Programs & Initiatives Committee (EPIC). Point of contact with the Office of Protection Services, Smithsonian Facilities. May serve on various committees;
- Planning and carrying out full range of supervisory and managerial authorities related to assignment of work, technical work directions, evaluation of subordinates, approving selections; approving or proposing disciplinary actions, determining training needs, approving expenditure of funds.
