Zoo Atlanta is seeking an Assistant / Associate Registrar for the animal division with the opportunity to advance to Registrar. The Assistant / Associate Registrar, under the supervision of the Director of Animal Resources, assists with animal records management, shipping, and permitting functions within the department and is responsible for the quality and content of animal records. The Assistant / Associate Registrar provides institutional data and collection information internally and externally as needed and ensures business continuity in the Director of Animal Resources absence.

  • Follow established protocols and data standards for maintaining active and inactive animal records ensuring appropriate retention, preservation and accessibility
  • Enter and audit animal records in institution databases and ensure the accuracy and validity of data
  • Assist in logistics of and preparation of paperwork required for the acquisition and disposition of collection animals ensuring timely coordination with veterinary and curatorial staffs and other institutions
  • Acquires all local, federal, and state wildlife permits and licenses necessary for the acquisition and disposition of collection animals
  • Assists in ensuring legal compliance with local, state, federal and international laws, government regulations and industry specific standards
  • Assist in training staff in animal record keeping, records management and data standards, and confirm daily reporting policies and procedures are followed
  • Assist with annual permitting and licensing renewals and reporting, including new applications
  • Compile, generate and distribute as directed accurate institution data and collection information
  • Monitor animal loan agreements and produce loan update questionnaires on an annual basis
  • Participates in appropriate professional associations (e.g. Zoological Registrars Association) to ensure the level of professionalism in standards for animal records and information management is continually elevated
  • Attend meetings as representative of Animals Collections department
  • Perform selected duties of Director of Animal Resources in their absence
  • Any other such projects and duties as assigned
